Popularity rank 1 #37. Welcome

January 15, 1997

JOHNNY: Greetings, readers! Shalom and welcome to the exciting world of "Johnny"! I'm the main character of the strip, Jonathan G. Williams. You may remember me from my earlier work in the Chronicle, such as "Guy Watching TV" or "Guy at the Airport"...

JOHNNY: Right now, I'm in Charlotte, NC, standing outside of "Johnny" headquarters, where the strip is conceived, written and performed...

JOHNNY: Inside, writers, artists, and interpretive dancers work long hours to give YOU, the consumer, all the cartoon enjoyment you deserve!

JOHNNY: Remember our slogan: "If it's high-quality, state of the art cartooning you want, well, we just can't help you... but if it's cheap, quick humor you want, then brother, WE'RE FULL OF IT." Or, more simply, "We're full of it." Good night and God bless.
NOTE: Last panel of the wordiest strip ever.

Popularity rank 4 #105. End of semester mailbag

April 29, 1997

JOHNNY: Well, it's the end of the semester, and we're getting a little reflective over here at Johnny headquarters.

JOHNNY: Yes, it's that time of the year where we get out the mailbags full of all the reader responses we got this semester. Ben?

Ben pours out two envelopes. Johnny does a take.

JOHNNY: Is this IT?
BEN: We threw out all the ones written in blood...
MO: Either of you know this gay guy from Harvard?

Popularity rank 5 #43. Meet Nick and Mo

January 23, 1997

JOHNNY: Of course, "Johnny" will play host to other members of the animal kingdom as well...

JOHNNY: Like our friends Mr. Squirrel and Mr. Bat here...

JHONNY: Animals, despite their lack of intelligence and sophistication, are often humorous to watch and poke fun at...

NICK: I wonder how the more "sophisticated" members of the strip will enjoy a walnut up-side their head at 300 mph....
MO: "MR. BAT"!?
